Come and learn from practicing social entrepreneurs how they are working to change the business paradigm while changing people’s lives.

Our Speakers are:
Tamra Ryan – CEO, Women’s Bean Project
Mr. Stephen Katsaros – Inventor and Founder of Nokero

A not-for-profit social venture such as Women’s Bean Project does things differently from a traditional not-for-profit: instead of a one-time hand-out, they work to ensure that their beneficiaries acquire the tools needed to sustain themselves and their families for a lifetime. They believe in nurturing economic sustainability for their program participants, partners and themselves through the model of social enterprise.

Nokero, a for-profit venture, is working in the developing world to provide an affordable source of light for the population that earns less than $2/day and lives without electricity and light.

Tamra Ryan – CEO, Women’s Bean Project

Tamra Ryan draws from marketing and sales experience as the CEO of Women’s Bean Project, bringing business savvy to the nationally-recognized social enterprise. Since arriving in 2003, Ryan has transformed the non-profit from a state of financial crisis to stability.

Prior to joining the Bean Project, Ryan worked as a marketing and business development professional for small and start-up companies, including experience as an Internet marketing consultant to Fortune 500 companies such as Wal-Mart and American Express. Ryan is also a board member with Social Venture Partners-Denver, a national network that connects philanthropists with nonprofits to maximize community impact.

Mr. Stephen Katsaros – Inventor and Founder of Nokero

Inventor Stephen Katsaros’ career is centered around innovation-ranging from product development to intellectual property. These activities have enabled Stephen to license inventions to sports companies (such as Dynastar Skis, K2, HaberVision, etc.) and build a transportation product company (RevoPower — a motorized wheel for bicycles that gets 200 MPG at 20 MPH). He enjoys developing products and making dreams into reality. Stephen earned a Bachelors of Science Mechanical Engineering (BSME) from Purdue University in 1996 and was a non-degree seeking student at the Bard Center of Entrepreneurship at the University of Colorado from 1998-1999. As a recognized leader in innovation, Stephen received a B.F. Goodrich Collegiate Inventors Award in 1995.

Women’s Bean Project - Since 1989 they have been helping women break the cycle of poverty and unemployment. They are a nonprofit organization that teaches job readiness and life skills for entry-level jobs through employment in their gourmet food production and handmade jewelry manufacturing businesses. Women come with the goal of transforming their lives and moving toward self sufficiency.

Nokero (short for No Kerosene) was formed in June 2010 by inventor Steve Katsaros to develop safe and environmentally-friendly solar products that eliminate the need for harmful and polluting fuels used for light and heat around the world, and most importantly, are affordable to the communities that need them.
