Sustainability in Transportation
You will hear from two of Colorado’s leaders in the transportation sector. You will hear their perspective on the importance of public transportation in Colorado and issues of sustainability for this sector. You will hear how they as leaders and their organizations are working to provide affordable transportation solutions to all Coloradans.
Bob Murphy, Mayor, Lakewood, CO
Bob served on the Lakewood Planning Commission from 1994-1999. He was elected to two terms on Lakewood City Council, serving from 1999-2007. In 2007 he was elected Mayor of Colorado’s fourth largest city.
Bob is the Chair of the Metro Mayors Caucus FasTracks Task Force. He has also collaborated with other public and private sector individuals on many key pieces of legislation, at both the State and Federal level.
Bob is the recipient of the Jefferson Economic Council’s 2010 Elected Official of the Year award as well as the 2012 Distinguished Service Award from the Denver Regional Council of Governments and the 2013 Wayne Carle Legacy Award from the Jefferson County School District for his work in promoting diversity. Bob is the owner of a Lakewood-based food brokerage firm.
Phillip A. Washington, General Manager, RTD
Mr. Washington has been the GM at the Regional Transportation District (RTD) since 2009. He is leading one of the most dynamic transit agencies in North America, which is implementing the FasTracks program, one of the largest transit expansion programs in the country. He is responsible for a 2013 total agency budget appropriation in the amount of $2.7 billion dollars and is currently managing active transit expansion projects in the amount of $4.2 billion dollars.
Prior to Phil’s transportation industry experience, he had a storied 24-year military career, retiring as a decorated U.S. Army soldier, having attained the rank of Command Sergeant Major. He is the recipient of numerous military honors and citations for outstanding performance of duty and leadership.
He is originally from the south side of Chicago and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from Columbia College and a Master of Arts degree in Management from Webster University. He commutes to work by bus and light rail each day from his home in Aurora, Colorado.

The Mountain View Room is located off Lot 4 on the Lowell Boulevard side of Regis University and in Claver Hall (formerly the Adult Learning Center.
- Take I-70 to the Federal Boulevard exit.
- Proceed north on Federal Blvd. to first stop light (This is Regis Boulevard on your left and W. 50th Avenue on your right).
- Turn left onto Regis Boulevard and go to first stop light (Lowell Boulevard).
- Turn right onto Lowell Boulevard and proceed north past Lot 3 to Lot 4 (about half way down hill on your right).
Eastbound: Take I-70 to the Federal Boulevard exit, proceed north (left) on Federal Blvd. to Regis Blvd. (50th). Take a left on Regis Blvd., take a right on Lowell Blvd., and go north to Lot 4.
From Lot 4 to the Mountain View Room
There is visitor parking on the left as you enter Lot 4. Claver Hall is the building directly in the front of the parking lot. Go up the walkway on the right and through the double doors on the left.
