The Executive Night Speaker Series provides a platform for students, alumni, faculty, staff, the business and local communities to network and listen to senior executives discuss the issues confronting them and the leadership they provide in the context of promoting business and organizational sustainability.
THEME: Sustainability in Practice
Sustainability is often erroneously interpreted as dealing with energy only. However, sustainability is much broader than that as Ball Corporation, a global company will illustrate in this unique presentation. Come and listen to the two sustainability Directors from Ball Corporation (one based in the United States and the other relocating from Europe). This is a great opportunity to hear the two speakers discuss how economic, environmental and social considerations are integrated in their decision making and global activities. Listen to how sustainability initiatives are reflected in their facilities across the globe.
The company’s Big 6 global sustainability goals which include waste recycling, improving safety performance, and the reduction in the usage of energy, natural gas, water, and volatile organic compounds (VOC) and will be discussed. You will also see collaboration at work as the company creates the long-term and shared value for the stakeholders.

Director, Sustainability-USA, Ball Corporation
Gerri Walsh began her career with Ball in 1984 as a Systems Analyst, prior to becoming the Manager of Graphics and eventually Regional Sales Manager. In 2003, Gerri was promoted to Recycling Manager which led to her work in Ball’s sustainability initiative. That position led to Director of Packaging Industry Affairs where she spearheaded Ball Corporation’s first and award-winning sustainability report. She is presently Director of Sustainability and has plans to retire from Ball in early 2012. She holds a bachelor’s degree in business from Northern Arizona University, Flagstaff.
Björn Kulmann Director, Sustainability-Europe, Ball Corporation
Björn Kulmann joined Ball in 2008 as Manager, Sustainability in the company’s European Headquarters in Germany. Prior to that, Bjoern worked as a consultant at Stakeholder Reporting in Hamburg, Germany, and supported several multinational companies in developing and implementing their sustainability strategies. He holds a degree in Environmental Sciences from the University of Lüneburg and has used his knowledge and experience to promote and enhance Ball’s sustainability management and communication, covering all three tiers: environmental, social and economic. Björn has recently been named Director, Sustainability. Björn and his wife have relocated to Colorado so that he can take on this new and exciting role.
