ICAST Lists First Carbon Credits With CSA GHG Clean Projects Registry


Working under a grant from the Edwards Mother Earth Foundation, ICAST recently listed our first “carbon credits” on the CSA GHG Clean Projects registry. These carbon credits are associated with emissions reductions stemming from energy efficiency retrofits and PV solar projects conducted at multifamily properties. ICAST believes it is the first organization to register carbon credits from aggregated projects specifically associated residential energy efficiency retrofits!

France to Ban Domestic Flights Where Trains Can Make Trips in Less Than 2 1/2 Hours 


France is set to ban short domestic flights in favor of train services after lawmakers approved a plan that will see several air routes discontinued to reduce emissions. MPs voted late to suspend some flights by domestic airlines that can be made by train in less than two-and-a-half hours, as part of a wider climate bill. If the bill passes through France's upper house, the Senate, France will join a number of European countries seeking to move away from short flights.

HUD Awards $5 Million To Promote Lead Hazard Reduction and Weatherization Programs


The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) awarded $5 million in demonstration grants to ICAST and four other local government and non-profit organizations to help households with young children or seniors promote energy efficiency and healthy housing. The funding promotes services by local HUD-funded Lead Hazard Reduction and Weatherization Assistance Programs funded by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). This will provide additional benefits to low-income households with lower energy costs and a reduction in residential health and safety hazards.

How 'Active Efficiency' Can Help Electricity Grids Weather the Storms to Come


Active Efficiency incorporates the entire spectrum of energy efficiency, from passive, component-based measures to dynamic, systems-level measures enabled by digital technology. Passive measures, such as increased building insulation, reflective surfaces (such as white or green roofs), natural ventilation, daylighting, shading and solar thermal heating are all effective measures to increase building resiliency as they help maintain comfortable indoor conditions during extended power outages in extreme hot or cold weather.
