ICAST Selected to Help Pueblo of Jemez Achieve Energy Independence

ICAST was recently selected by the Pueblo of Jemez (POJ), a federally recognized sovereign nation in New Mexico, to help them achieve energy independence. We will work with POJ and other project partners to develop the plans to acquire and/or create the energy infrastructure necessary for POJ to be carbon neutral and create a path toward economic development and local job creation.

Key project components include evaluating the viability of POJ forming its own utility rather than being served primarily by Jemez Mountains Electric Cooperative, determining how POJ can generate its own clean energy via a utility-scale solar PV project(s), and developing plans for POJ to become a ‘Smart Community’ where Grid-Interactive Efficient Buildings interact with a Smart Grid (utility) to manage energy demand in the most cost-effective manner. The team will also work to develop a workforce and economic development strategy for POJ to ensure that upon implementation of the plans, the economic impacts will benefit tribal members. If POJ determines that the project is feasible, the team will move forward with implementation.

This project has the potential to drive significant economic development, utility cost savings, job creation, and long-term sustainable revenue generation. ICAST is excited for the opportunity to help create triple bottom line benefits for POJ Tribal members.
