5000 families already assisted and still counting


ICAST passed a milestone in Aug. 2018 with over 5200 multifamily apartment retrofits completed for the first time in ICAST history. In 2017, ICAST served ~3500 households and is set to more than double that number. ICAST expects to serve over 8,000 families by Dec. 2018!

ICAST submits Net Zero design to NYSERDA


ICAST and its team of architect (River Architects), energy engineer (Stengel Engineering) and general contractor (Bette & Cring) submitted its preliminary net zero energy retrofit design to NYSERDA as part of its RetrofitNY project for Troy Housing Authority and Beacon Communities.  Led by ICAST, the team’s proposed solution will eliminate the use of natural gas, add solar thermal and PV systems to the property, and achieve substantial energy efficiency - dropping the energy consumption from over 64 kBtu/ft2 down to 16.3 kBtu /ft2

ICAST team keeps growing


ICAST recently hired 3 new members to its growing team. Monica Paici is a new addition to the marketing team as the Marketing Advisor. She comes to ICAST from a long career in the marketing industry. Todd Troutwine joins ICAST as Construction Project Manager and is based in Utah and will oversee all construction activities. Leroy Ayon joins as an Assistant to Jeremiah Weil in Albuquerque to help oversee projects in New Mexico. ICAST welcomes these new members to its team!

New company develops ultra-low cost, long duration energy storage systems

A new company started by an MIT professor and the former developer of the Tesla power storage systems has made great strides with the use of sulfur as a battery. Early results how sulfur can store energy over longer duration for a tenth of the cost of lithium ion batteries.

N.Y. grid operator moves toward landmark carbon price


In a step towards making New York state energy producers pay tax on all carbon released into the environment, the Integrating Public Policy Task Force, a joint effort between the New York Independent System Operator and the state government, has come out with the first carbon pricing policy at the grid operator level in the U.S.

Can Electrification Short-Circuit the Utility Death Spiral?


As energy efficiency measures have driven the consumption of energy downward in recent years, so too have decreased energy company profits.  While many alternatives have been pitched, it turns out that electrifying heat and transportation may be the secret to firming up their bottom lines. But what if utilities could rekindle their profits while protecting the environment? The grid is becoming greener as natural gas, solar power, and wind energy become more affordable, and fully electrifying transportation and heating could reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the United States by 70 percent.
