ICAST Signs Contract to Create Energy Efficiency and Healthy Homes in Environmental Justice Communities
ICAST recently signed a contract with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to facilitate green upgrades for small business multifamily affordable housing (MFAH) property owners in New Mexico. ICAST will provide property owners necessary support to help them pursue green retrofits, including information on the benefits of energy efficiency (EE) and water conservation (WC) upgrades, property assessments and appropriate scopes of work, and information on financing options for implementation. We will leverage our innovative one-stop shop to support property owners throughout the project.

Washington State Governor Jay Inslee has signed into law a bill requiring all new cars registered in the state to be electric by 2030. The Clean Cars 2030 measure, part of the $16.9-billion Move Ahead Washington transportation package, sets the most aggressive state target in the US for the phaseout of gas-powered cars—five years ahead of California's 2035 deadline—and establishes an interagency council to devise a plan for achieving the goal.

White House Publishes Clean Energy Opportunities
On April 20, the White House published a fact sheet on the Administration’s creation of cost-saving clean energy opportunities to combat the climate crisis. The following are included directly from the publication:
- HUD-Assisted Multifamily Housing Benefits from Solar
- The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has determined that D.C. Solar for All’s community-net-metering (CNM) credits will be excluded from household income and utility allowance calculations and therefore will not increase housing costs for residents in properties participating in HUD Multifamily rental assistance programs.

NLIHC released its annual report The Gap: A Shortage of Affordable Homes, finding the lowest-income renters in the U.S. face a shortage of approximately 7 million affordable and available rental homes. Drawing on multiple data sources, the report documents how the pandemic has exacerbated the housing crisis for the lowest-income renters. The report examines both short- and long-term policy interventions needed to address the immediate housing impacts of the pandemic and the underlying shortage of affordable housing.
