ICAST Ramps Up Efforts in Missouri
ICAST’s partnership with Ameren-Missouri has kicked into high gear as the ICAST team on the ground in St. Louis have ramped up the income qualified and market rate projects contracted for energy efficiency upgrades. Among the income-eligible properties to enroll in the program are Parkwood Place Apartments, The Oxford Apartments, Del Monte Apartments, Sunshine Apartments, & Parkview Apartments. The newly added Market Rate program has enrolled Park Val Apartments, Lofts at Highlands, Woodsmill Village and more. With these projects, ICAST will exceed this year’s goals for Ameren-Missouri!
Low Temperature Curing Process Cuts Cement’s
CO2 Emissions by 70%
The making of concrete is responsible for as much as 8 percent of annual global CO2 emissions. Now, the world's largest cement company is going to be selling reduced CO2 cement for the precast industry in the US. The product uses a special binder, produced at lower temperatures, and curing process that uses CO2 rather than water. By adding and absorbing CO2, Solidia Concrete reaches strength in less than 24 hours, unlike precast concrete made with Portland cement, which takes 28 days to reach strength. Solidia reduces the overall carbon footprint in precast concrete by 70%. This concrete can be made in a conventional cement kiln with the heat turned down, so it works within the existing systems of production.
Solar and Battery Storage Help ‘GivePower’
Desalinate 20,000 Gallons of Sea Water/Day
‘GivePower’ has created a solar micro-grid system that can produce almost 20,000 gallons of fresh drinking water each day. It relies on Tesla batteries for energy storage, and it uses two parallel pumps so that the system can run at all times, even if one pump requires maintenance. The desalination system, which started operating in the coastal area of Kiunga, Kenya, in July 2018 creates enough drinking water for 25,000 people. Locals pay about a quarter of one cent for every four cups (one liter) of water
